Mercury retrograde begins on October 24, 2026, and ends on November 13, 2026. This is the third and final Mercury retrograde of the year, taking place entirely in Scorpio in the Western tropical zodiac.
In astrology, Mercury governs communication, information, learning and decision-making. Its retrograde periods are traditionally associated with reviewing plans, revisiting conversations and giving greater attention to details.
The October–November retrograde carries a particular emphasis on trust, privacy, shared finances and unresolved questions, reflecting the traditional symbolism of Scorpio.
To understand the underlying phenomenon, read What Happens During Mercury Retrograde?, which explains both the astronomy and its astrological interpretation.

♏ Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio 2026: What Does It Mean?
Scorpio is traditionally associated with emotional depth, trust, privacy, investigation and shared resources. When Mercury turns retrograde in this sign, the astrological emphasis shifts toward examining what has been left unsaid, misunderstood or unresolved.
Rather than focusing on ordinary surface-level conversations, this retrograde is associated with questions that require more careful consideration.
🔍 Truth and Clarity
Scorpio’s investigative symbolism places emphasis on looking beyond first impressions. Revisit assumptions, distinguish facts from suspicions and examine information carefully.
💕 Trust and Relationships
Unspoken expectations, confidentiality and personal boundaries become prominent themes. Honest conversations are more useful than attempting to interpret another person’s intentions without evidence.
💰 Shared Finances
Scorpio is associated with jointly managed resources. Review shared expenses, financial agreements, debts or obligations that need clearer terms.
🗝️ Privacy and Information
Consider how personal information is stored, shared and protected. This period symbolically highlights discretion and thoughtful communication.
These are traditional Western astrological interpretations. Mercury’s retrograde movement does not scientifically establish that secrets will emerge, relationships will change or financial problems will occur.
☿ Why Mercury Appears to Move Backward
Mercury does not physically reverse its orbit around the Sun. Retrograde motion is an apparent change in direction as viewed from Earth, caused by the changing positions of Earth and Mercury as they travel around the Sun.
The movement is an astronomical phenomenon. Its association with communication, decisions and relationships comes from astrology rather than demonstrated physical effects on daily life.
Mercury turns retrograde several times each year, with each period lasting approximately three weeks.
✨ What to Expect During Mercury Retrograde October–November 2026
Mercury retrograde is traditionally interpreted as a period for reconsidering information, revisiting unfinished matters and approaching important conversations with greater care.
💬 Communication
Clarify messages before responding, especially when a conversation involves sensitive information or long-standing disagreements.
📋 Work and Agreements
Check contract terms, responsibilities, figures and deadlines. Seek clarification where expectations are unclear.
📱 Technology
Back up important files, review security settings and verify critical information before making changes to digital systems.
✈️ Travel and Plans
Confirm reservations and schedules. Allow reasonable flexibility without assuming that delays or disruptions are inevitable.
There is no scientific evidence that Mercury retrograde directly causes communication failures, technology problems or travel delays. Practical preparation matters more than the planetary calendar.

🌸 Mercury and Venus Retrograde Together in 2026
The October–November Mercury retrograde overlaps with Venus retrograde, which runs from October 3 to November 13, 2026.
In astrology, Mercury is associated with communication and reasoning, while Venus represents relationships, attraction, personal values and pleasure.
When both planets are retrograde, traditional interpretations place particular emphasis on the relationship between what people value and how they communicate those values.
In practical terms, this is an opportunity to review expectations, discuss shared responsibilities and reconsider earlier decisions with greater clarity. It does not mean relationships are destined to face difficulties.
🌙 November 4, 2026: Mercury Conjunct the Sun
On November 4, Mercury reaches inferior conjunction with the Sun, passing between Earth and the Sun.
In the traditional Mercury retrograde cycle, this conjunction marks an important midpoint. Some astrologers interpret it as a symbolic moment of recognition or renewed understanding, although the astronomical alignment itself does not cause such outcomes.
Mercury remains retrograde after the conjunction and turns direct on November 13.
◷ Mercury Retrograde Shadow Period: October 4 – November 30, 2026
The full October–November Mercury retrograde cycle extends beyond the dates when Mercury is moving backward.

01 · October 4–24: Pre-Shadow
Mercury moves forward through the section of Scorpio it will later revisit. In astrology, this phase is associated with the introduction of subjects that may require reconsideration.
02 · October 24–November 13: Retrograde

03 · November 13–30: Post-Shadow
Mercury is direct again and moves forward through the same degrees. Astrologers commonly associate this final phase with resolving unfinished matters and putting revised plans into practice.
