The Crown Chakra, also known as the Sahasrara (सहस्रार) Chakra in Sanskrit. It is the seventh major energy center in the category of the seven main chakras . It is purple and is located in the upper center of the head. The Crown Chakra has to do with intelligence, wisdom and understanding. This chakra represents consciousness, spirituality and connection with the higher self.

When the Sahasrara Chakra is in energy balance the person in question will feel more connected to the self and the Universe, will be more receptive and open minded and will have a higher degree of understanding and connection in relation to cosmic and spiritual energies reaching short time to possess the wisdom that comes from the experiences lived during life. The proper functioning of the Crown chakra provides the ability to retain more energy in the body through the nervous system.

The energetic overload of this chakra leads to the feeling of detachment from the material world and even to the sensation of disassociation with the physical body. The person in question will show a tendency to be over-intellectual and will leave the impression of an airy attitude, leading to disconnection from society and communication problems, confusion and depression.

When the Crown Chakra is weakly charged energetically the person will feel separated from his peers without a sure purpose in life, will have difficulty understanding, will have difficulty making decisions and will feel an acute fear of death.

The crown chakra is our storehouse for the energies we accumulate through kind thoughts and actions and through acts of faith, meditation and prayer. It is here that we can transcend the dimensions of life and enter into communion with “God” .

Sahasrara is connection . It affects all major systems of the body : the central nervous system, the muscular system and the skin . Therefore, skin-related problems such as rashes, acne or eczema could mean that your crown chakra is out of harmony.

On an emotional level, the crown chakra generates devotion , inspirational and prophetic thinking , mystical connections and transcendental ideas. If you’ve been having amazing dreams lately, it could be your seventh chakra communicating with you.

Symbolically, sahasrara contains the purest form of life energy , and revolves around the realm of mysticism. Those whose sahasrara is blocked are narrow-minded and unable to understand the bigger picture ; they lack motivation and tend to blame others for their crises or when they find themselves in moments of stagnation. They also have a distorted perception of life, death and spirituality.

The Crown Chakra reminds us that often, in the course of our life, we are faced with a crossroads where we must let an old phase “die” in order to be reborn again.

This is also the chakra of humanity . Thanks to sahasrara, we realize that we are all in this human experience , that and all of our souls are here to learn what it feels like to inhabit a human body. Those who cannot connect with others, or who have a closed mind, usually suffer from problems related to empathy, are loners and, more often than not, are very cynical towards faith and spirituality.

Crown chakra or Sahasrara Chakra reminds us that all physical and emotional obstacles are nothing but illusions to learn from.

The energy of the crown chakra motivates us to seek a deeper connection with the divine in everything we do . This is the reason why we hear about artists, yogis and inventors who explain that they had a transcendental experience that moved them during their practice; and also of people who have lived a blissful epiphany that has given them an idea of what it really is.

However, let’s not confuse the personal spiritual connection of the seventh chakra with religion . Religion is characteristic of a group of people, which makes us feel safe. Spirituality , on the other hand, is an individual experience aimed at freeing the fears of the physical world and relating to the divine in order to recognize it in all of us.

The more people are able to connect with the power of this chakra, the more our large-scale collective consciousness will shift towards a more holistic understanding of health, disease, the environment, biodiversity and humanity as a whole.

Our goal on this earth plane is to transcend all illusions and discover the innate power of the spirit. We realize that we are responsible for what we create and, in turn, we must learn to act, think and speak with love and wisdom .

Crown Chakra Meaning and Significance

The Crown chakra is the pinnacle on our journey up through the energy system of the body. In Sanskrit it is known as Sahasrara, ‘gateway of the void,’ and this is where we become ‘enlightened’ by dying completely to the ego. The deity connected with the energy of this chakra (which is more receptacle for grace than a chakra) is Shiva, the god of transformation.

People often experience difficulties when this chakra is activated (a.k.a a ‘healing crisis). It can help to be mindful of the image of the lotus flower which starts its life in the murky and muddy waters at the bottom of the pond before it reaches the light of the sun at the surface.

The ego is reluctant to let go and will bombard us with fears to try to force us to cling to a meaningless existence where we are alienated from The All. The crown connects us to Source and when it is fully activated, we cease to experience the illusion of separation between us and God and us and other living beings.

The gift of this chakra is to experience unity . It is the selfless realization that everything is interconnected on a fundamental level .

More specifically, on this chakra depend:

  • How much beauty you can see in the world
  • Your arousal levels
  • Your motivation to achieve the goals
  • If you have a restful sleep
  • Your ability to find peace
  • Your self-esteem

The energy of this chakra allows us to experience mystical unity with everyone and everything in nature.
At the seventh chakra level, there is no intellectual knowledge . But there are serenity, joy and profound peace in life.

Thanks to sahasrara, you have the feeling of knowing that there is a deeper meaning , that there is an order that underlies all existence.

The “way of the crown chakra” is the one that leads to overcome the limits of one’s ego . It is the way to transcend the ego and know that all creation is united on a deep level.

In some traditions, such as Tantric and Buddhist, the seventh chakra is referred to as “Akasha” or “the field”.
According to Tantric philosophy, the seventh chakra is both a receptor and a source of energy and consciousness . It receives energy to sustain life, and it returns it to unite with the source of collective consciousness.

It is our meeting point between the finite (the body and the ego) and the infinite (the universe and the soul).
It is the place where time and timelessness intersect , and where death meets eternal life.

The thousand petal chakra leads us to embrace an attitude of gratitude towards life.

When we realize that everything is interconnected and that we are part of a larger life pattern, we begin to live with gratitude and faith, leaving behind anxiety and fear.

Thanks to Sahasrara, we are guided by a higher power , and we perceive divinity inside and outside of us .

The challenge of this chakra is to free the spirit, to open up to the divine , and at the same time be able to “function in the world” , to remain rooted in this earthly creation.

What happens when Crown Chakra is Contaminated

From a physiological point of view, the malfunction of the Sahasrara Chakra is manifested by headaches, migraines, poor memory, nervous system imbalances, poor coordination, fatigue, low vision and ringing in the ears, ringing in the ears in some cases can be caused by other factors and it is not always the effect of a dysfunctional chakra.

Why the seventh chakra is important

If the Sahsrara Chakra  is  correctly balanced it positively affects understanding, learning and consciousness. The greatest benefit is that it allows us to conquer transcendental knowledge,  a goal which means the attainment of spiritual freedom.

A mental and physical state that allows us to no longer have doubts about our ideas and helps us to leave the position of passive spectator of our existence, to transform ourselves into real leaders.

The Sahsrara Chakra can instead bring numerous negative effects if it is not properly balanced.

How to Recognize Imbalances in Crown Chakra or Sahsrara Chakra

If you would like to understand the situation more fully, and understand if there are imbalances in your seventh chakra (there may be too much, or too little energy), here are some ideas.

Your crown chakra may be overactive if:

  • You are cynical
  • You feel apathy, indifference
  • You feel disconnected from your spirituality
  • You have self-destructive tendencies
  • You feel attached to the past or the future
  • You feel hate

Common symptoms of an inactive crown chakra , however, are:

  • Confusion about what you want to do
  • Lack of inspiration
  • Desire to sleep more than necessary

Physical symptoms of imbalance can be:

  • Poor coordination
  • Headache from voltage chronic
  • Exhaustion

Your sahasrara chakra, then, can be locked in a wide range of scenarios , so there is no foolproof way to tell when its alignment is in danger.
However, common things that block the crown chakra include midlife crises (like re-evaluating your job or relationship), negative feedback about things that are a source of pride for you, and conflicting family relationships .

Regardless of the cause of your blockage, you can learn how to unlock the chakras in a simple and straightforward way.

How to rebalance the Sahsrara Chakra or Crown Chakra

If it is closed , the consequences can be seen on our thinking, which is no longer clear and confident. Our body is also affected: we can be more easily affected by severe headaches, psychosis and phobias.

When the flow is blocked, in fact, we will not be able to cultivate our spirituality. We will therefore feel apathetic, disheartened, without the will to live, depressed.

If instead it is  too open  we will then be attached to unimportant things, material goods and power, overwhelmed by ignorance and dissatisfaction and we will always feel anxious, arrogant, impatient.

Also on the physical level we will suffer and accuse exhaustion, mental confusion, depression, apathy to the point of leading to psychosis and schizophrenia.

The size and importance of the advantages is directly proportional to that of the disadvantages, caused precisely by the large amount of energy that this chakra is able to release.

But what to do if the seventh Chakra is not balanced?

Here are my tips to rebalance the seventh Chakra.

Practice the right Asanas

There are many Asanas that can help you rebalance  Sahsrara Chakra  when it is too open or too closed, such as inverted positions.

Sirsasana or Sarvangasana  are two perfect Asanas to implement in your daily practice and that will help you unlock this Chakra.

Meditation

The meditation is a great way to rebalance the skewed Chakra. To rebalance the seventh Chakra the best meditation is the transcendental one.

To amplify the benefits of meditation, I recommend that you also recite the mantra Ah which you can hear in this video below. I advise you to meditate in  Padmasana , the lotus position.

How to Cleanse Crown Chakra

The cleansing and balancing of the Crown Chakra is done through meditation by imagining a white or golden light that penetrates through the Sahasrara Chakra. Meditation can be accompanied by gestures of kindness towards others. Transparent and purple crystals can be worn or used in meditation to receive the energy that this chakra receives from the universe.

Crown Chakra Activation

Visualising white, gold or violet light entering through an opening just above the top of your head and filling your whole body and aura is a good way of activating the crown chakra. Imagine a white lotus flower opening it’s petals to the sun… You can amplify the effect of this visualisation by holding one of the crystals mentioned above. Or, if you are lying down, you may want to place one of the crystals just above your head. Use the inbreath to guide the light in through the crown and blow out out through the soles of your feet on the outbreath.

Complete the visualisation by gently closing the petals of the lotus flower, allowing them to remain slightly open as we wish to maintain our connection to Source at all times.

You strengthen your crown chakra by spending time in silence but also by connecting with nature. Meditating on top of a mountain or visualising doing so is excellent.

A person with a healthy crown chakra speaks with authority but there is an uplifting and enjoyable lightness about them. Their energy is empowering and capable or transmitting spiritual power and knowledge without words. You always feel fully seen and fully accepted when you are with them. They are the gurus of this planet, whether they use the title or not.

Crown Chakra or Sahsrara Chakra Affirmation

An effective method to realign the seventh chakra is that of affirmations , which have the ability to replace destructive beliefs with positive and constructive ones.

You can repeat the affirmations in the morning as soon as you get up, while you work, while you are in line to do the shopping, while you are channeled into traffic … in short, whenever you feel the need or the inspiration.

You can also do this with the help of an amethyst pendant.

Here is a list of affirmations specifically designed to benefit sahasrara.

Meditation for the Crown Chakra or Sahsrara Chakra

All meditation practices are helpful in keeping the seven chakras open and aligned. Meditation promotes the awareness of self, emotional regulation and relaxation . Additionally, there are beginner chakra meditation techniques that specifically target each chakra.

You can help you in life with the intelligent use of the elements associated with this chakra ( stones , colors , foods…), but here is a meditation for you.
Here are the steps:

  • For the position, get comfortable , sit with your back straight (cross-legged or on a chair) and feet on a yoga mat .
  • Place your hands in your lap and turn your palms towards the sky. This position is called ” mudra ” and it helps you to receive energy.
  • Close your eyes and inhale through your nose, exhaling through your mouth.
  • Imagine a lotus on top of your head. As you continue to breathe slowly and evenly, watch the lotus petals open to show you a bright purple light.
  • Imagine the light getting brighter and brighter, warming the top of your head.
  • Let the heat spread downward throughout your body.
  • After 5-10 minutes , you can open your eyes and sit quietly as long as you wish.

Remain quiet for a while, observing the effects of meditation and the differences from before the practice.
