The second Chakra, the Svadhisthana, or water chakra, which is associated with pleasure and sexuality

Its balance is very important, otherwise your body could suffer from annoying problems such as impotence and frigidity.

Let’s discover all the characteristics of the second chakra.

What is the Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana Chakra?

Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana Chakra is the second major chakra. The name svadhisthana (in devanagari script स्वाधिष्ठान) means ” where your being is established “. More specifically. This chakra has to do with creativity , passion and sensual pleasure. This second chakra is the center of feelings, emotions, sensuality, intimacy and connection. Its energy allows us to let go, to flow, to flow like water and to feel the change and transformation that takes place in our body . It helps us to experience the moment as it is , in its fullness.

To understand the meaning of the name we must divide it into two parts.

The word Svadhisthana comes from Sanskrit, where Sva means ” his “, while adhisthana stands for ” abode “. So it can be defined as the chakra of one’s abode .

It is the chakra of creativity and sex, from here start both the personality of each of us but also the desire for contact with other people.

It is also associated with the unconscious and with the custody of mental impressions. For this reason it is considered the substratum of human existence.

The Svadhisthana is located at the base of the penis in man, while the woman at the vagina.

It is represented as a six-petaled lotus of orange color  where on each petal there is a letter of the Sanskrit alphabet.

Inside the lotus there is a white crescent moon generated by two circles. The largest is the conscious dimension of existence and the smallest the unconscious dimension.

Inside the segment of the moon, instead, a white crocodile is depicted which symbolizes the underground movements of karma.

The main challenge for the sacral chakra is social conditioning . In fact, we live in a society where feelings are not recognized, or at least not given importance. Passions and emotional reactions, then, are viewed with suspicion. We grow with the teaching to never lose control , and gradually we lose touch with our body and our sensations.

In addition, we feel the wounds of our collective difficulties regarding sexuality on our skin . On the one hand, this is magnified and exalted , but on the other hand it is rejected and rejected . As a result, it is easy for many people to find themselves with a blocked or hyperactive second chakra .

The second chakra is the center of creativity, from art to the conception of a new life . Not surprisingly, the uterus is in its domain. In both art and sexuality, passion is the fuel of creative energy . Thanks to passion, great artists are inspired and carry out their projects, and always thanks to passion, living beings reproduce themselves and life continues on Earth.

When Svadhisthana works well, you feel present in your body, sensual, creative and connected to your feelings.

Why is Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana Chakra important?

The balance of this chakra is fundamental.

If the functioning is not correct and therefore the chakra is blocked, the resulting disturbances can be quite annoying.

Svadhisthana is responsible for emotions and therefore, if balance is lacking, you may lose control of your emotional states. If this Chakra is closed, you may for example not be able to manage anger, become too instinctive and have huge mood swings.

Sex life can also be affected by nasty annoyances. Problems can arise in intimate relationships with your significant other, making you lose all the emotional part of the sexual experience.

The physical problems you may have are kidney, bladder, prostate, and even menstrual cycle disorders.

Discomfort can come even if this chakra is too open . In this case, you may feel the will to achieve immediate pleasure, which allows you to more easily develop different types of addictions such as food, alcohol, drugs or sex.

How to rebalance the Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana

Exercises that allow you to balance the Sacral Chakra:

Bhujangasana or cobra pose

You have to do just what the cobra does when it goes from being quiet to feeling unsafe. When he feels he is in a dangerous situation, he raises his head, and then lowers it to the ground when he feels comfortable.

To perform this exercise lie on your stomach, rest your chin on the ground and place your hands close to your body, on the star line of the armpits. The feet must be straight.

As you inhale, raise your upper body with your hands to help you. Do a short head tilt and look up. Now you need to hold your breath and stay still in this position for as long as you think it will be useful to you.

Exhale and return to the starting position.

At first do this exercise quickly. After perfecting the technique, try to hold the position for a couple of minutes.

This way you can manage your emotions, especially anger.

Baddha Konasana or butterfly posture

Sit on the ground and keep your back straight, let your knees drop to the sides and bring the soles of your feet together in front of your pelvis.

Grab your ankles with your hands and try to pull them as far as possible towards your body. In the meantime, try to bring your knees to the floor.

Now relax your arms and shoulders and think that your legs are like the wings of a butterfly taking flight.

Pelvic circles

Sit cross-legged, place your hands on your knees and move your torso as if to form circles. After five or six movements it changes direction.

Ustrasana or camel posture

Get on your knees, grab your heels and push your groin forward and up by arching your back. Turn your head back and look up.

This position requires strength, flexibility and courage. If you cannot touch your heels with your hands, I recommend that you do some breathing practices to prepare for this exercise, or leave your hands on the pelvis.

Meditation

You can activate the second chakra using meditation techniques as well. If the chakra is asleep it needs to be awakened.

I advise you to adopt Zen meditation or kundalini, practices that serve precisely to awaken this type of energy.

Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana Chakra Affirmation

As you already know, affirmations are a great method of rewriting old belief systems that limit us to replace them with more positive ones. One of the methods to help balance your svadhisthana chakra is to use specially created affirmations. You can repeat them whenever you find yourself in a situation where you feel you need them , when you are worried about the alignment of this energy center, but also simply in the morning when you wake up when the mind is more plastic.

Here are some statements for the second chakra:

  • I nurture my passion.
  • deserve to enjoy and satisfy my needs
  • I’m sure what I offer the world is enough
  • Expressing my sexuality in a creative, fun and healthy way is safe
  • I attract relationships with people who are rich in love and who support me
  • I am aware that I can welcome the changes to make the best of them
  • Every day, I feel more and more joy and satisfaction
  • I am filled with inspiration and creative potential
  • My body is fine and I’m fine on the inside
  • I am a strong and creative person and I love what I create
  • I am ready for positive changes and deep personal growth
  • I love my body
  • I have healthy limits and boundaries

  • I respect my body and value it
  • I am open to contact and intimacy
  • I allow myself to feel pleasure
  • My sexuality is sacred
  • Emotions are the language of my soul
  • I am at peace

Meditation for the Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana

If you want a second chakra in excellent health, another good way to help is meditation . There are many types of meditation , which take place in different ways, but almost all of them have the power to positively influence the physical bodies through more subtle energies.

The meditations that focus on the chakras , generally include a component display , which helps to bring the energy in certain areas that you want to “strengthen.” As for the sacral chakra, meditation will unlock the center of power which is located near the navel.

  1. Find a quiet place where you feel safe and know no one will bother you, get a yoga mat and put a rolled-up blanket or meditation cushion on it .
  2. If you are unsure of your position to meditate , sit comfortably, cross-legged or in the lotus position . The back must be straight both to not feel pain and to allow the chakras to be aligned. Relax your shoulders and close your eyes.
  3. Breathe deeply and slowly, ten times.
  4. Visualize an orange circle spinning in the area of your second chakra.
  5. Since the element of the sacral chakra is water , imagine that this orange light spreads through waves , slowly enveloping your entire body.
  6. Feel the warmth that grows in you as a result.
  7. Continue to visualize this orange energy as long as you wish (preferably for at least five minutes), after which when you feel ready, open your eyes.
  8. Look at the energy inside your body, and what has changed since before.

If you like incense, these are particularly suitable for stimulating the chakras .

Recipe the Syllable “VAM”

If you like to recite mantras, or to chant (also perfect practice for the second chakra), you can consider the first two points of the meditation just described (i.e. how to prepare and get into position), to emit the syllable VANG , which acts on the second chakra .

Make sure you take a good deep breath before starting, after which inhale and fully and, when you are ready to exhale, let out the VANG seed mantra trying to make the final phase of the sound coincide with that of the breath.

You can recite this mantra by yourself sitting, or with other friends and fellow practitioners. It can also be fun, creative and interesting to play with the keys , rhythms and the various ways in which phonemes and syllables can be intoned.

In Conclusion

As you have read, if the Sacral chakra or Svadhisthana is unbalanced, your body can suffer with quite unpleasant physical and mental problems.

It is closely related to the pleasure principle and you like every human being are strongly attracted to it and try to avoid pain.

This research can bring immediate positive effects, but in the long run it only leads to negative consequences. A kind of addiction to pleasure forms in you and like any addiction it is not good for your body or your spirit.

To keep it balanced, all you have to do is perform the exercises I have recommended. However, a few runs from time to time will not be enough, you will have to be constant and continue day after day.
