Sweet Chestnut ( Castanea sativa ) is a melliferous tree of the Fagaceae family. The sweet chestnut loves siliceous or volcanic soils and disdains calcareous ones, its roots expand robustly in soils that are neither too humid nor too dry, in open spaces. The tree has a large and imposing crown that reaches up to 40 m in height, blooms in summer, with an accentuated fragrance and only after the formation of the foliage; it should be noted that this plant, to reach its known longevity, gives fruits after 25 years and the old trunk generates suckers.
